Course Description
This course features a fast-paced environment that teaches the participant the skills required to manage medical illness and traumatic injuries encountered in austere environments. Our course helps prepare the student for the unexpected with a hands-on approach to managing medical emergencies. This course is great for people of all backgrounds and experiences. Students who may benefit from the course include but are not limited to those who: take short trips relatively close to help, work at wilderness camps, enjoy weekend family outdoor activities, and/or participate in local outdoor recreation. The 8 hour module will include lecture and practical application. Topics include: - First Aid Kits - Patient Assessment - Head and Spinal Injuries & Management - Chest Injuries & Management - Abdominal Injuries & Management - Shock - Wound Management including tourniquet conversion and basic suturing - Athletic Injuries - Fracture Management - Dislocations - Cold Injuries - Heat Illness - Lightning - Anaphylaxis - Altitude Illness Course Schedule: [No upcoming classes at this time]
